I picked up one of the Far and Near SRAM derailleur tuning kits, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the pivot bolt off of my derailleur to replace it with the pretty gold one. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

there's a helical spring clip securing it, you need to use a pointy thing to lift the end then 'unwind' it from around the pivot bolt

if you look at the sram spares catalog there's a picture showing an exploded view of the rear mech

Awesome - thanks man! It looked to me like that SHOULD have been a clip, but it was so fine that in my poorly lit shop I couldn't see the seam. I got it off now.

Next project: better shop lighting

Okay, apparently removing the pivot bolt was the easy part - any tips on how to get that helical spring clip back in place? Do I even need it or will the derailleur just hold itself together once secured on the hanger?

it's fiddly to start, but basically you put it back the way it came out

feed in one end of the helix, push it down to seat it, then wind the rest around until the other end snaps into place
