Hollowgram on non cannondale bike - is it just wrong??

I've nearly finished building my new Helium with Campag Record 11 and having a dilemma with the cranks.

Basically its a PF30 frame and whilst I've got the Campag Record cranks (that will require an adaptor due to them being Ultra Torque) I've also got some Hollowgram SL's off my old Caad.

Question is (and I admit this sounds a little silly) Is it wrong to use Hollowgrams on a non Cannondale bike fitted with Campag, it seems like mixing Shimano and Campag

I'm Campag SR on my Parlee Z5 SL with the exception of my Hollowgrams (off my old 'Dale). Too good to move on from.

I am running sram crankset on my campagnolo group, i have just sanded it down and put a campagnolo sticker on it

I have Hollowgrams on my Parlee Z5 with Campy, as well. Thought they were overrated until I got them...now I'm shopping around for a new frame and everything I find is BSA or PF86 which is very annoying...

Side note, I was pleased to see that Quarq doesn't have the ugly SRAM logo on their Hollowgram spiders anymore.

Normally all about matching everything, but in this case, the Hollowgrams are just that good. That said, Hollowgrams on a c'dale is even better.

IMHO, mixing is fine as long as graphics are subtle. I have Cannondale Si on my Spesh Allez.

Okay- Un popular opinion on weight weenies here.

Why are hollowgrams so good?

They are within 20-30g of a FSA SLK crankset (generally considered a "cheap" carbon crank)

They often have creaking issues due to to the spider/crank interface.

The spider lockrings sometimes, but very infrequently crack.

They require a small, but special tool to remove and have more parts involved then other cranks.

They are not some mega stiff end game crank in comparison to some of the big players cranks (Shimano, Sram, Campy)


So why is it that we all want these cranks so badly? (I know, I've lusted after and eventually bought a pair)

Is it because they are manufactured in a cool way?

Is it because they look cool?

Is it because they are fairly light?


I'm not sure why it is that I love hollowgrams, but I certainly don't joke myself into thinking they are better then almost any other high end crankset out there and they most certainly are worse then a few. (Think D/A 9000)
