I do not use a barrel adjuster for the FD nor do I ever fit one. If it is not needed why bother. Set the inner limit screw and pull the cable tight and anchor. Then set the outer limit screw. You just need to pull the cable more before anchoring. when I have had to work on SRAM before it does require a bit more tension than Shimano or campagnolo FD's but it is attainable without the use of a barrel adjuster.

Is that the non-Yaw version? I have a the Yaw version and it requires an insane amount of tension. I wasn't able to get it without an adjuster.

Agree, pre-yaw have done it without barrell, not hard. Yaw - needed a barrell and used the barrell to almost the limit of its ability.
