hello, I've done a few searches but still cant get a definitive answer to this.

A friend is looking to upgrade from a specialized tarmac sl2 to either a Giant Propel adv sl or a scott foil team hmx fameset and new groupset.

He has a quarq riken but its BB30 that he ideally wants to reuse - are there any adapters that will allow him to get a bb30 quarq into either of these pf86 framesets?

Ive seen these http://rotorbike.com/products/road/bb86_40 by rotor but its a bit confusing.

This has come up before. The Rotor adapters will work but to accommodate the larger spindle the bearings are very small and not very durable.

I can't search at the moment but there are threads that cover this.

As 585 said, Riken is not a true BB30. It will fit, but bearing life will be short as the bottom bracket is designed for a 24mm spindle and the riken has a 30mm spindle, the additional 6mm has to come out of space available for the bearings.

the bearing should not be that thin considering that they have made the "press-in" a part of the bearing, BUT bb86 has a wider shell on the frame then bb30, så the problem can be that the spindle will be to short

As already stated the Riken has a longer spindle as it is not a true BB30 crank.

Buy a standard GXP crankset. Swap the spiders. Sell the Riken BB30 arms with standard spider on it.
