Another Colnago C60 or...?
Moderator: robbosmans
I've been lurking around the forum for the while, but hope to get some great opinions from the members here.
Recently I have bought myself a Colnago C60 - a dream bike of mine which its top tube got shattered in less than a month after I bought it from a crash after my -Edit- Sorry I meant Tublars, not Clinchers came off.
So heres the question. Buy another Colnago C60, and ride with fear of crashing again or something which is more "bang for the buck"?
Im specifically looking at the Canyon Ultimate CFX, which seems to have pretty positive reviews, and more importantly a "crash replacement program" which Colnago does not have to my concern.
I was quoted about 2k EUR to have my top tube fixed, and considering the price to send it to Italy I can just buy a new frame.
I fully understand a Canyon will always be a Canyon, lacking prestige and heritage unlike the Colnago, however the crash replacement program - and the price of the Canyon frame is really attractive.

Your clincher came off?
First I'd speak to the wheel/tyre company about compensation.
Then I'd send my sob story to Colnago and pray that they take pity on my terrible misfortune with my dream bike and repair/replace for a more reasonable cost.
No matter what though, I'd only buy a bike that stirred some emotion in me that I couldn't help but want to ride and put things like "bang for buck" out of the equation.

You may be able to get it repaired to 99% of new condition by a reputable repair company for far less. After holding on to a broken C50 for about 2.5 years, I finally found a carbon specialist that could appropriately fix the frame and also do justice to the finish. It looks and more importantly rides just as well as it did when new and only cost me about $500 USD plus shipping.
I also suggest sticking to something you love. I ended up buying an S-works SL4 after my C50; terrible decision. While it is a superb race bike in it's own right, it has no soul and does nothing for me the way a Colnago does. I never loved riding it; I always want to finish my ride as quickly as possible when I ride it. As a result, I opted to buy a C59 recently and now I am also stuck with an SL4 that is somewhat worthless on the open market.

Crash replacement program? its a loyalty discount...

Your clinchers came off and you crashed. The brand of bike is irrelevant. The cost of replacement is a different fear than a fear of crashing. Sucks that you crashed the C60 though, especially before showing us any pics. How did you like it up until that point?

Just send it to calfee and you'll get a stronger repaired frame.
Thank you for your opinions. Yeah, I really see how myself getting a Canyon isnt going to give me as much pleasure as owning another Colnago.
Same thing happened when I bought a Bianchi - Real nice bike, but...
The C60 was just perfect. Used to ride a Infinito, then got myself a C59, then came up to the C60. Best bike I ever rode.
Heres a pic of misery ;(

Ride something you seriously like, rather than "bang for the buck" kind bike.
In short, get the C60 fixed aka repaired, as suggested by most members here.
Btw, I'm curious to know what actually happened to the clincher tires??
Cheers!

How will not riding a Colnago (or any other bike) quell your fear of crashing....?
Just curious...EM3

Well, to be honest the fear of screwing up another 4k frame and having to spend 2k on a fix.
What happened was suddenly the clinchers came off. Not like I was going down a hill, sharp turn, or bumpy pavements.

@lUcIfEr
Clinchers don't anyhow come off while you just ride along.
IMHO, the tire manufacturer should compensate you if there was indeed a failure in their tires..

@lUcIfEr, Im gladly willing to take away that burden by offering 100$ for that doorstop!
