I´m considering an upgrade to carbonframe from my steelframe for more performance.

What would you recommend with horizontal toptube? I´m an oldschool steelframelover. So sloping frames is just not my style.

I´ve been looking at a De Rosa Superking 888, which I like very much. The Chipollini RB1000 is very nice too, but too expensive. The Colnago C59 is also an option, but ive heard, that they are´nt very stiff.

Thanks lannes. But the TT is not nearly horizontal enough for me ;-)

Colnago C59 not stiff enough? Your coming from a steel frame? Are you a pro?

I´m very competitive - but no pro. There are a lot of very stiff steelframes out there though. But stiffness in steelframes is not the issue here. This thread is about carbonframes.

He was asking so he could develop an idea of what you've ridden before - to form some sort of comparison for you.

Find a NOS/used Look 595 Ultra? Should be plenty stiff.

Ok, so where do you ride? What weight are you, how tall are you, are you doing? Alot of climbing, is the terrain fairly flat? All these questions effect what frame suits? When you say stiffness are you talking about just the bottom bracket? Do you ride reasonable distances? So a degree of comfort is importance, a C59 was/is used by pro's and is not only a comfortable frame but is stiff to. An RB1000 is very stiff, maybe somewhat harsh? So obviously depends what your using it for?

so where do you ride?
- Denmark, very flat.

What weight are you
- 82 kg/180 lbs

, how tall are you, are you doing?
- 186cm/6´1

A lot of climbing, is the terrain fairly flat?
- Flat, no climbing

All these questions effect what frame suits?
When you say stiffness are you talking about just the bottom bracket?
- BB and headtube, I don´t care much about how comfortable it is (as long it´s not a alloy frame)

Do you ride reasonable distances?
- I would say yes, races are around 100-120 km (62-74 miles), training 60-150 km (37-93 miles)
- 300-450 km a week (186-279 miles)

So a degree of comfort is importance, a C59 was/is used by pro's and is not only a comfortable frame but is stiff to. An RB1000 is very stiff, maybe somewhat harsh? So obviously depends what your using it for?

How about the Cipollini RB800? I have one and it's much more comfortable and lighter than the RB1000 and cheaper. Did 110 miles on it Saturday and still felt good afterwards, plus they're quite exclusive.

Sorry, being a bit cheeky and pressed send! Seriously though, the Z2 has a flat top tube.
