I've been using giro shoes since they were released. Trans, factor, and now prolight (2014). I have high arches but very skinny feet. I cut an inch off each strap of the pro lights and they are still too long. The middle strap when tight extends all the way past to the outsole. A riding buddy has the originals and his are too short. They definitely addressed the original problem, for better or for worse.

By the way, I never weighed the SLX pair I received, since they obviously would not fit. Can an owner confirm if Giro's listed weight at 205gr for 42.5 is accurate? I am curious now that I found how inaccurate the listed weight for the Factor is.

I just so happened to get a pair of 42.5 of the SLX today. Weights:

197g Right Shoe
195g Left Shoe
10g for each of the minimal insole
24g for each of the more supportive insoles

Thanks - that's good to know. If I remove the insole completely from the Factor (there is no minimum option), and then also remove the ratchet and buckle, it gets close to the listed 240g (down from 295g)... But then it's not really useable.

My search continues. Waiting for a pair of Bonts. I'll decide between them and the Factors, I hope.

my slx2 with the highest arch support insole in 44 is 220g. My factor (last years model) is 255g with the heavier insoles, again in highest arch mode.

I finally broke down and ordered the newest SLX II's after all for $230, well below the suggested retail price, and I have no regrets!

They are perfect for me, size 43. The weight with medium arch insole support is 220g, and most importantly, they fit me perfectly, I would say even better than the Factors, so the reduced weight does not sacrifice any comfort. I especially like the soft leather like material and padding around the ankles. The straps are plenty long enough, the soles really stiff, and the upper support while pulling on the pedals out of the saddle excellent. I thought my old Mavics were great, except the weight, but these are even better and 200g lighter, total, so around $1 per gram saved..

In the meantime I also tried a pair of Bont Riot shoes. They were horrible for me. Too short, too wide, and torture for my ankle protruding "peroneal trochlea" bone.

220gramms is pretty good for a size 43.

I started with the factors and found them really comfortable in size 45 and then upgraded to the prolights but I too find the last Velcro strap just a tad short. I thought the factors were a snug glove like fit but the prolights are almost snug to the point of being uncomfortable, I hope as people have said that they do loosen a bit

The SLX II's fortunately have a longer strap, and they are super comfortable for my feet. Just came back from 4 hours and not a single sore spot. That's not bad for new shoes. I ended up liking the Giro comfort and form-factor so much, that when BikeTiresDirect offered them almost 50% off, I re-bought a pair of Factors, but black instead of white, for my daily use/commuting and non-hilly rides. My cheap Mavics are then retired for good.
