The cable on my R hand shifter has snapped at the shifter and the ratcheting mechanism isn't working - I assume that there is about 2cm of cable including the barrel end stop stuck inside the shifter body.
I have extracted all visible signs of the old frayed cable but am now stuck. The levers move but the ratchet mechanism doesn't 'click'. I cannot thread a new cable through from either end. Is it worth pursuing this or am I best just giving up on it and getting a new shifter?

You can separate the shifter into two with the pivot visible from the sides of the shifters.
There is a small lock (like a washer) on it, so you remove it and just take out the pivot with a rounded object and small hammer.

Maybe this will help you.
