According to my limited understanding the new BB386 standard is basically a wide spindle BB30 with press fit bearings. Also the Vuma Quad is a BB30 standard spindle wide enough for threaded BB with external cups.

Could you then use a Vuma Quad crank with a PF30 BB on a BB386 frame?

The reason I ask is I have a Vuma Quad on a current bike, and a BB386 frame on the way ( and I accidentally ordered a BB30 crank for it) but wondered if I could just get a PF30 BB and make it work. That would be pretty trick.

Cheers

Yes your Vumaquad will work on a PF30. I'm running Vumaquad on my OSBB Tarmac.

I haven't seen bb386 up close but from what I've read it seems like it would work.

it will definitely work. that is essentially what 386 is- the width of an english 68mm shell plus external bearings. that should total about 90mm, actually, but a couple 0.5mm preload washers and the wavy washer fill the rest up.

It didn't work for me when I tried to install my vuma quad on a Litepseed L1r frame which has a bb386EVO.

The vuma quad spindle was too short, when tightened it would bind the cranks.
