A Little birdy told me that 'a company' (not one form S,S,C) will come with a cassette with a design al la Sram red.
This time completely out of one solid black of steel. so, no alloy backplate and no loose 11t cog. As of now it is still unknown if two versions, a 10 and an 11 speed will be made. On thing is certain though. the 11 speed cassette will fit onto the 10 speed body of a shimano splined wheel.

That all i know for now.

So it will either bind on the hub body or the dropout or both ?

Or might be like the new 11spd xtr where the largest sprocket is dished over to the nds. Might have issues with spoke clearance on some wheels.

I think @steve is correct.

It's the only direction to go.

Issues with spoke clearance would be more likely with Shimano branded hubs and any other that used the Shimano DS flange dimension. Aftermarket hubs or wheels that offered a Campy or Shimano freehub option should be fine, since they already offered enough clearance for a Campy 11-speed cassette, which we know is the same width as a Shimano 11-spd cassette.

Or if you just wanted to use a shimano 10 speed freehub with 11 speed derailleurs (e.g Dura Ace 9000), you could just remove the smallest cog from the Dura-Ace 11 speed cogset. That makes it a 10 speed cog with 11 speed cog spacing and therefore 11 speed indexing.

I had to do that with my RZR's which couldn't take a 11 speed freehub, as I wanted to use 9000.

I don't know if we're talking about the same company / development, but I know a cassette is coming up, which is compatible with both shimano and campagnolo and 10 - 11 speed.

Most hubs have an extra ~1mm or so DS clearance. Alchemy was the first I'm aware of to squeeze every nano meter of space. I haven't seen any loose Shimano hubs that do.

It's going to be something you need to check... can't really be universal.

According to them, No that's not the one. You need a 11sp hub [or Mavic]

I'd plunk down some $ for this. I have a nice set of Speedcomposites climbing wheels which I would like to use with 11-speed. Thought about taking a 11 speed dura ace and dropping the 11t, but that's a bit of a hack. Also tried to source a campy freehub as apparently Campy 11 cassettes work with Shimano 11 -- but unfortunately Speedcomposites spare parts aren't easy to source now.

I hope this indeed pans out as I have a set of Lightweight Gen 1's that I'd love to use 11 speed with 8)

Does anybody know if this is possible - available for Shimano C50 WH-7850?
