I recently purchased a 2012 Cannondale EVO Hi-Mod frameset off eBay. It was being sold as a new complete bike that was stripped down, never ridden. I got the frame today and it is far from new. Looks to have many miles on it. I have contacted the seller, but in the meantime I have a question about the top tube. It looks to have a spider crack in it. I know it’s not normal, but does it look like it will affect the structure? the last picture shows my concern.

thanks for any info and advice.

Hard to tell but it looks like it has seen some miles. That type of crack looks a bit more like impact than general clear coat cracking, to me.

Has that BB been touched up with paint?

I would not ride and trust a situation like this, personally, and would return it asap. If the sale wasn't honest (unsused frameset etc..) then I wouldn't trust any of it.

Send that shit back as soon as possible and use eBay & PayPal to get your money back if the seller wants to play games.
Sadly this is the problem with buying carbon from a third party; you never know what you're going to get and it's just not worth risking your safety on a frame you're unsure about.

Super bummer. This frame is in no way new and absolutely has miles, if not many miles.

That's trash. You need to get your money back and flame the seller hard in feedback.

Assuming the spider in the top tube is cosmetic and not structural what would a fair price be for this frame?

$500-$1000 IMO (IF it were cosmetic), but it still has had some type of impact

... I wouldn't buy from someone who hasn't been honest. EVER. Too many unknown's.

Thanks for all the advice. he is willing to take it back or give a partial refund. i'm going to have the local cannondale dealer check it out and see what they think before i send it back. after looking at it more i think somebody may have dropped a tool on it?

I wouldn't settle for anything less than a full refund including shipping costs. As above, I would never trust anybody again who materially misrepresented an item like this. Take full advantage of the Paypal/eBay/your credit card dispute mechanisms.

Get a full refund. You will never feel safe / happy riding this frame.

That frame has a lot of miles on it. As the guy is clearly a lying con-artist you can't trust anything he offers. Unless you are happy to spend $$$ on getting a decent repair of all the defects (in which case you could spend this on a decent frame to start with) you'll always have a dodgy frame. Full refund.

I just picked up that same frameset used and mine doesn't have any cracks like that. Send it back for sure.
