Anyone know off hand if I can use a 7800 chain on a 9000 cassette without damage to either?

Thanks

I use a wippermann 10s1 chain on a 9000 cassette, it's a pretty close fit, I'd recommend an 11 speed chain just to be safe you don't add extra wear where it's not needed.

My wife's bike has DuraAce 7800 and my bike is 9000. It's a total PITA to swap cassettes on the trainer when I have to take it to races bc she uses it during the week. I'd prefer just to leave a 9000 cassette on all the time instead of using the one that came with the Wahoo trainer.

Then simply put an 11 speed chain on her bike. it will work on 10 speed.

Or just buy a 100 USD Tacx trainer for races... And keep the Wahoo at home...

You can use the 10-speed chain on an 11-speed cassette but it's noisier and you can't cross-gear much. And frankly, I wouldn't want to abuse a narrow chain that much -- I've broken a few chains in my life and losing a chain as you're out of the saddle hauling up a hill is not a great way to hit the deck.

As pointed out, just switch to an 11-speed chain on your next chain replacement.
