The instructions that came with my K-Type are either lacking or intended for a different crank. The one I have includes a preload collar on the NDS which doesn't even appear in the instructions. What is the appropriate installation procedure and method for setting preload? Should I use grease or loctite on any bolts/interfaces? :noidea:

I received instructions from KCNC. Posting them here in case anyone else is in search of this:

1. Loosen small bolt on red preload collar and install on non-drive-side crank arm.

2. Apply anti-seize grease on axle bolt, splines and arm sockets of the drive side.

3. Tight the drive side axle bolt, tight it to dead end.

4. Apply anti-seize on axle.

5. Put the axle through BB.

6. Again, apply anti-seize grease on bolt, splines and arm socket of non-drive-side.

7. Tighten the non drive side axle bolt to dead end.

8. Adjust the final gap/clearance on red spacer/clamp bolt. You don’t necessary need to make it very tight as long or the BB bearing can overload. (They also gave me a guideline of 3Nm.)

The anti-seize coating seems to help eliminate some clicking sounds I was getting when I used standard grease.

On my RD-2 crankset the red pre-load collar is attached to the NDS crankarm.

Sorry, I mistyped. Preload collar should be installed on NDS arm as yours is.

What does your collar say? I can not make it out. "This gap must not...". Mine does not include this warning, whatever it is.

It should move if you press it with your hand, just check if the crankset is loose or not.

I had to apply loctite to both my K-type cranksets because the large bolts became loose pretty quick.
