MCFK Saddle Repair
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi all,
I managed to get caught up in a crash last weekend during a race. My MCFK saddle took a beating and looks like the bond between the rails and shell is slightly compromised. If I squeeze the saddle, it looks like there's a small cavity. The rails also seemed to cause some damage at the terminal end of the saddle. I'm able to ride on the saddle, but it's making a clicking noise on each pedal stroke.
The rails themselves are fine, and the shell seems to be mostly fine except for a few minor cracks around the edges.
There's no chance of just applying some epoxy at the junction and see if that resolves the issue, right?
Full carbon repair is going to run me a couple hundred, so I'd rather just replace the saddle.
Any thoughts? Time to buy a new one?

I would not necessarily assume that a professional carbon repair of the saddle will cost hundreds...
Have you obtained any quotes from US-based repairers?

I obtained one quote, but I guess I can try Predator cycling which is near me.
I contacted Mcfk yesterday to see if they have a crash replacement discount. I'll let you guys know if they do.
If I use epoxy, what type should I pick up?

Mcfk got back to me quickly. They have a crash replacement program. I'm going that route.
Saddle is as matte as day one. It's been through a lot, including off road racing and a few accidental drops on its side.
The crash that did the saddle in was at 20mph and I went over my bars. I found my bike a good 15 ft from where I was.

slightly offf topic, but just bought a setback mcfk seatpost in ud carbon from fairwheelbikes. when i got it, i was surprised by the lack of quality control on this post. various splits and gaps in the ud carbon. nothing structural but all on the cosmetic layer of ud that covers the normal 3k weave. i had to send it back, as it is not the normal top quality of mcfk products that i have bought in the past.
They have a lot of flex, so are very comfortable. If the shape works for you, I'd highly recommend it, even if it wasn't lighter than a padded option.
I've done 120 mile rides on it and 200mi three day training weekends on it.
Also, once you get used to the smooth surface, going back to a leather saddle can be annoying since you notice the saddle snagging on your bibs.
