I have a 2013 S-Works Tarmac SL4. I want to replace the very heavy stock specialized fork expander. Unfortunately, the stock fork inner diameter is too small to accomodate the extralite ultrastar. I have built many bicycles in the past, however, this is the first time i have encountered a fork this small. Any help would be appreciated. Thx Mark

The fork is extra-narrow because Specialized have put a reinforcing insert into it. They recalled all of the SL4 forks about a year ago because of some failures at the crown. They asked shops to send them back to Specialized, and most received the extra insert before being returned and re-installed on the bikes. The insert added about 20 grams to the forks. All new bikes received the same treatment before being shipped to retail stores. Forks that were retrofit with the insert were returned with the new expander that is made for the super-narrow inner diameter. I doubt that you can find another expander that will fit, but let us know if you do.
