I don't get the point of what the people at Michelin call the 'compensator ring', ie. the thin plastic ring on the LH cup, as found on their Evo-Max bottom brackets for threaded BB shells. What do you think? Thanks.

That ring is very easily broken as well. I am not sure of it function either.
