21 Gram Pump

I think different people have different needs. I ride tubular tires and carry a small 160 gram Tufo Elite spare tire. I get a flat once every 20,000 miles or so. When I get a flat I put the spare tire on the bike and pump up to 80-90 psi, if it went to 100 psi that would be fine, I would never fill a tubular with more than 100 psi. Sure, you can fill a tubular to a much higher pressure, the tire will not explode. Your ride quality would suffer and your chances of a flat greatly increase.

The Tufo 160 is a small tire, not much volume and because it is not securely glued I take it easy for the rest of the day. The spare has glue on it and the rim will still have glue, the two mate up and it is held in place fine for casual riding home. I have ridden over a 100 miles on a spare Tufo with 80 psi, sometimes you are starting out on a long ride and get a flat.

Well this has been an interesting thread!!

I have a specialised mini pump. Works when you need it but takes almighty effort to pump the tyre to an acceptable level to ride home. I feel like I've ridden an extra ten miles after a few minutes of using it. However it's small light and works when I need it to. I don't think you'll ever reach a perfect solution as the sheer mechanics of it denote that a small pump does not equate to little effort and perfect results. Even with the specialised pump I curse how small it is when in use as it's impossible to grip it and pump when the psi starts to increase. I can only imagine how tough the ipump is to use. Fair play if he does redesign it so it works though. I would have told most of you to f*ck off about six pages back!

Sounds like the pump also has quality issues as well, seems like the guy who actually did the comparison test before noted that the handle or something broke. The point of a road pump is to be able to ride back home, that's why you carry a pump. You've already had bad luck with the flat tire, why would you spend $80+ on a pump that may also fail on the road as well?

I'm not schilling for companies like Topeak and Lezyne, but their products go through a lot of testing before going on the market. Otherwise their brand takes a beating in terms of negative reviews (SRAM hydro brakes recall anyone?). A Kickstarter project for something that's supposed to be an emergency tool really needs a good consensus that it can actually help you when shit goes wrong. 13 pages of this thread, and I've yet to see someone say that it actually got them back home with over 100 PSI of pressure in their tires. Until that happens, I think I'll stick with the mini pump I already have. It got me home once with 65 PSI... which means it's working as intended.

I keep saying this not because I work for them but just because the only real micro pump that worked for me in emergency situation so far was the Barbieri Nana. And I left 1 galon of sweat on the ground after pumping the tire but it did it. The ipump so far didn't do the job for me. All in all I still stick with the CO2 whatever it weights just because it is 300 times more convenient and easier in emergency situation.
