Dura Ace 9000 changes to 9001
Moderator: robbosmans
There seems to be some discussion in these forums that Shimano is releasing an updated version of its shifters (ST-9001). Does anyone know if the changes will be limited to the shifters, or if changes will be made in other components of the DA9000 gruppo?
Edited: they are shifters

I did a search and only found the cassette problem, which I knew about. I have heard that there is other changes?
I have newish DA 9000 and want to make sure that I get it back to the LBS if there is any thing that is a potential problem.
Thanks
Scott

Is this the official word from Shimano?
If so, then it confirms everything I have been claiming to be the problem since I snapped my first cable 3 months into owning DA9000
If this is an acknowledged problem, then I will be inquiring seriously about a trade in for the 9000 shifters I have now. If I am going to go through a cable every 3 months for the entire life of the shifters, which is about 3 years / until Shimano bring out Dura Ace 10,000, that is a lot of cables, and hassle that I honestly and not willing to go through.
Ive had the same problem with cables popping every 2000km or so on my DA9000 bike.
Shame shimano doesnt man up and do a full recall. Its the second time I feel let down by them, first with the DA7900 group sub par shifting performance and now with this DA9000 cable routing flaw. You would think they'd test their products properly before releasing them into the market

Thanks guys, that is what I thought was the problem. They better help us 9000 people out since we are the early adopters and spend the $

thanks for all the great info...like many I was in the dark and thought some how it was installation error....what a relief to know, and shame on shimano for not being more honest!
Right, we need to start making some noise about this. Everybody who has 9000 shifters needs to contact the place they bought them from and inquire about a trade in or replacement to the fixed issue 9001 shifters. 9000 shifters have a cable snapping fault, pure and simple, which is unacceptable, and could potentially leave people stranded if the cable snaps far from home, as mine has done twice now.
Has anyone seen or bought at pair of the 9001 shifters yet?

After lots of emails and less than clear or helpful replies from various other companies, Chain Reaction have come up trumps:

I am quite shocked by this Shimano failure (to go along with that child's toy of a cassette they came up with). Very disappointing in light of the fact that the early 10 speed shifters had this same problem. The shifters basically sawed the head off the cable. I was looking to go back to Shimano but I think now I'll do just as well to stay with SRAM (never had a cable fail).
