Shimano Ultegra 6800 cassette question
Moderator: robbosmans
Can someone confirm if this cassette has a carbon or alloy sprocket carrier? I've heard people mention that it has a carbon carrier but can find no mention of that in any advertising I've seen for it.

Yeah, something like that. I quess that I, like most, would like to get full use of all "old/obsolete" wheels before jumping to the 11s freehub wagon.
To be honest, my right Sram Force shifter broke yesterday. A real bummer! It's 3 years old and therefore not covered by the warranty. I'm thinking of either going Ultegra 6700 by getting the shifter and rear derailleur (already have the cassette, chain and front derailleur) or get Ultegra 6800, which basically means all the group(po).
Choosing 6800 mean that I have to make do with 10 of the 11 sprockets in order to make it work with my current 10s freehubs.

Also a 10sp Shimano/Sram wheel with an 11sp 9000/6800 cassette minus 1 sprocket will run perfectly with a Campy 11 derailleur and shifters. Very, very useful for beaters and winter bikes
Well my plan is to machine out the rear of the sprocket carrier so I can run 11speed Shimano on my Gen1 Lightweights. I don't fancy doing it to the rear of a Sram Red cassette, guess I'll have to wait for 105 11speed cassettes What is the rear of a Force 22 cassette like? Does it use an alloy sprocket carrier like older Shimano 105/Ultegra etc?

I actually have a similar question- can I run an 11s shimano cogset on a 7800 hub? I was thinking I would remove the 11 from an 11-25 and then be able to run shimano or campy 11, but I dont know if the 11s cogs have the deeper notches needed to fit over the taller splines on the alu casette carrier. The alternative at this point is to either sell my wheels for a loss, do some machining or use a jtek with 10s, neither of which i'm particularly fond of...
