If people want something and it's what they enjoy, they should buy it - regardless if they need it or not!

Dan...I simply posted a topic to see if anyone has used this new helmet and thought the added price was worth it. I didn't post a topic about money or how it should or should not be spent. Maybe if you stuck to the topic about the helemt this STUPID money thing would have never been an issue. You are the one who brought this on yourself....so don't get sensitive on me!!!! Goto to a money chat room or something....I want to talk parts!!!!!!!

To save money on lightweight TP just take a dump before going on a ride. Bad joke sorry.. OK, not off topic, I have a GIRO Pneumo and it's a great helmet. If you may have read Armstrong's recent book "every second counts" he described a crash on a training ride which split his helmet in half in a head-on collision with a car. He was using a Pneumo (in 2001 at least). It saved his head but he did fracture a vertebra from it. At any rate, it's not just a light helmet it's well designed also. The Atmos is probably as good or better I'm sure, well worth the bucks.

I've heard that a helmet should be replaced every two years, irregardless. Something about the styrofoam breaking down and not being up to manufacturer specs. Maybe it's just a ploy to sell more.

Two years are IMHO a manufacturer trick or it's a recommendation from the early 90's where foam wasn't as resistant as today.
I'd say todays helmets should be replaced after 5 years.

do people on this site just use dollars for toilet paper or what?

Sometimes it can be cheaper to use dollars for toilet paper.

Hypothetical Situation:
Let's say one roll of toilet paper has 500 pieces on it. If i get one Euro Exchanged, thats rougly 2000 Japanese Yen. If toilet paper costs 3 Euro for 6 rolls (3000 pieces), then its 50% cheaper to use the Yen. :-)

Just a thought

jeez, I guess one could also duct tape 4 rolls of tp to one's skull (with the low dollar it wouldn't be fiscally beneficial to do that here though),
but WTH has any of this to do with the original post requesting info on a specific helmet?????

520 Dan-Your posts regarding the WW Forum members' buying habits have been foolish and impudent from the first.
It's said that an art collector is someone who knows how to spend too much on a work of art. The same can be said of a WW on a bike part. It's an unconventional passion.
Your rage we defy. From what see of your posts your your intellectual abilities are not so formible.
You know the reasons why WW buy expensive bike parts-we dare you to refute them.

I only use this website as a reference and to see a) what I can buy and b) what is really freaking sweet that just came out for bikes. Will I ever own this stuff probably not although the zerogravity brakes and the superliet cranks are in the works but that is not for a while. I cant sit there and buy new things like the rest but I sure as hell want to know if it would be worth my time and effort to buy it. I love WW and who cares what others buy its good reference material and something to druel over. Keeping buying new things you frugel bastards because I love it!

2 Year Helmet Life

Sydney gets a lot of sun and being not far from a Ozone hole, it may affect helmets here more than Europe.

I was shown helmets (Met) being destroyed after being traded in post crash. With a sample large enough to discount the ease of distruction due to the initial impact, the older helmets were signifigantly softer/weaker than newer ones (50+% on helmets 2-3 years old). Apperently some peoples sweat is also more distructive to helmets that others :?

This reminds me of a "tip of the month" from Bicycling magazine: To clean that nasty smelling helmet, wear it in the shower, shampoo your head as usual and move the helmet back and forth, rinse, repeat (lol).

Speaking of light helmets, anyone heard of the Selev Alien Helmet? Supposedly 210g (claimed by manufacturer).

http://www.selevhelmets.com/data/alien_nov02.htm

Considerably lighter then the Atmos or Pneumo.
