Yeah, it's not uncommon to see a software update where the totality of the notes listed was "bug fixes". Still totally right to complain about Shimano doing that with the shifter though.

Switch to Sram XG-1190. Quiet, light. Excellent cassette and better made than the DuraAce 11spd. Not cheap for sure. But Im totally satisfied. Run 9070 Di2 BTW and a CN9000 chain.

Didn't shimano stuff up the design of the xt 9 speed cassette as well?
The one with the 3 large sprockets on a 4 arm spider, sure I saw a good few of them folded up. They went to 5 arm shortly after.

As a tandem owner I believe all bicycle parts should withstand the forces experienced on a tandem. I'm running XT cassette and KMC chain on my tandem with zero failures (over 12,000 miles). I've also used older Dura Ace cassettes on a tandem with no issues. I would not dare put a 9000 cassette on my tandem.

This has happened on the XT CS-771-10 11-32 as well. I've seen a few other photos of breaks in the same way around the rivet.

Is there a consensus on how to install the cassette. Just got mine and want to put it on the wheel just not sure how far to torque it.

I have had problems with the DA 9000 cassettes. Shimano swapped out 3 cassettes for me, the replacements also cracked. All DA cassettes have now been replaced with Ultegra 11 speed, no issue after 3000km.

edit: big carrier (where the da ones are breaking (or in pictures they are)) is aluminum on ultegra 6800

Nope. Its got a carbon carrier too. Theres a picture of it on one of the previous pages of this thread

I don't think that swapping to an ultegra with heavier materials and overall weight is a solution.

Shimano needs to get this one sorted out. Looks like they went the cheap route on the cassette to get it lighter instead of milling it out of an entire piece, to include the hub connection point, they went with a carbon/rivet setup...kind of silly. Really don't want carbon on the exact point where all torque is connected/translated into wheel turning and the axle in my world anyway.

Only downside to the SRAM XG1190, is the price, $350+ even on the Bay...but the weight/durability and performance are hard to argue with on the other hand.
