Back then the R3 & R3SL were top of the Cervélo range - I'm not surprised it was made of higher grade carbon than the current model.

The general consensus of the R3 gaining weight was that at the time the weight gain was necessary to support the price of the R3 SL. IIRC the earliest R3's were sub 900 grams. Then lots of paint, etc., were added in subsequent model years to distinguish the R3 from the R3 SL which was.... sub 900 grams and essentially the same bike.

I don't think that is correct. My early 2006 R3 56cm was over 900g- either 920g or 960g, I forget. My 2009 R3SL, also 56cm, is 840g. It's got a smaller seat tube and takes a 27.2mm post rather than the 32.4mm post on the original R3.

No surprise... The paint jobs look atrocious as usual. I don't get it :noidea:

Interesting regarding the "new" S3. I'm curious to hear more info released. Also whether the R3 is going to use same mold as R5 just cheaper carbon.

I think, as one poster commented that the R3 has internal routing now! Look at the cable entrance and exit on the R series bikes shown. :D

S3 now has tapered headtube and rear wheel cutout! Want to hear the figures on that one. Also, yay for the internal cable routing! I'll be interested to know more about the R3 and R5, but looks like some RCA tech did come. Just need a better shot of the tubing to see if it's Squoval 3 or not

I think it is quite easy to see the Squoval 3 shaping on the downtube....It is definatelly the same mold as RCA....look at the seatstays/steatube/top tube cluster....the same as RCA.
Also the headtube is the same shape as RCA.
NO DOUBT OF THE SAME MOLDS RCA/R5.
R3....it is hard to see....but the chain stays look like the RCA's ones. So, I think ALL R series have the same mold.

That would be great news. Depending on how the S3 rides, there's a new R3 or S3 in my future :)

So 'new' S3 will replace the long-in-the-tooth S2, while keeping S5 at the top of their Aero range still?
If R5 really gets all the tech from RCA, it will be a hot sale for sure. I would love one, providing the paintjob is acceptable. The black & blue R3 looks great, and if we aren't mistaken, it's basically a 2013 R5!?

Not necessarily sure, but the black and blue R3 also seems to have the RCA mold! Look at the cable routing, it's the same spot as the RCA, internal!

Of course they pulled the thread from Slowtwits on these bikes.

I am not impressed by the S3 from what I see. I think they could have done more!

I find it interesting that they are all small sizes, I would guess 54s. That is assuming that they haven't changed the geometry. I think we would have seen the change already on RCa if they were going to change it.
