P.S I visited LBS today. They have full 2014 line up on stock!
There was 4,9kg RCA hanging on the scales! The RCA looks stunning!
Also R5 2014 was shown............and I was shocked to see the NEW S2 2014!

I have read that the 2014 Cervelo R3 due later this month is heavier, has a more standard fork, and is built with a cheaper carbon fiber (see CyclingWeekly article http://bit.ly/1bC4VcV). I've been offered one as a replacement for my 2012 R3 Team frame that had warranty issues. I'm not sure if this is a step back or not. Bike Radar has the frame at 980g (http://bit.ly/Kl5Cla) but I can't find what a 2012 R3 Team frame weighed.

The 2014 R3 is heavier with a different fork and cheaper carbon to the 2014 R5 and RCA. It is vastly superior to the R3 Team of 2012. It's lighter and something on the order of 20% stiffer while having more aero tubing saving 7 watts. I would hands down GLADLY accept a 2014 R3 as a replacement.

Thanks for the info. My head spins trying to make heads or tails of all the info without comparing actual numbers. Looking forward to the new bike then! :D

OK, I want to look more pro than PRO - short headtube, -17 stem, no spacer.

Aero-shaped tubing is nice, but firstly get into a more aero position which for me is lower in front.

Less is more - less frontal area ie.

Cervelo does not meet my needs, sorry.

Does anyone have a 2014 Cervelo S3- or seen one up close?
What is frame weight?
What do they mean by BBright PF30? Is that different or wider than a regular PF30? Can you run PF30/BB30 cranks with this? Or do they need to be specific?

Not sure about the frame weight.

All of your BBRight questions are probably answered somewhere here: http://www.bbright.net/supportingbrands.aspx

I permit to join this very interesting post (just tell me if i need to post as a new one).

At the moment I'm looking to replace a 2006 Giant TCR Advanced ISP (1009g, M size) and really hesitate between 2014 R3 and R5 (as a 54), looking for a shorter frame.

I deal in Germany a €3600 2014 R5 (vs €2000 R3), do you "finally" think it really worth the difference (€1600 is $2150) ?

What can i expect for the weight of each ? i guess around 950g for R3 and 780g for R5, and maybe 20/30g difference on fork ?
Which would means approx $10/g.

I have my shop building me up a 2014 R3 as we speak. I stopped by yesterday to check it out in person since the gruppo is installed and the wheels are built/mounted. Just need to wait to get on it for a complete fit since I'm trying to develop a more aero position. The bike is flat out beautiful in person.

I'll post an update once the bike is in hand.

the subtlety of the tube shaping and headtube looks really really amazing in person. looks fantastic. the r5 is approximately 810 grams for the frame. 950 for the r3. the r5 that i saw was a size 58 with di2 9070 and stock fulcrum wheels and it felt very light. I'm kicking myself for not having him weigh it there

Depends on how much spare money you have. To me it'd be worth it only if I would truly not notice the missing $2150 at all: all my bills were paid, retirement maxed out, etc etc. And I rode a lot.
Even then I'd have to think about it pretty hard.

Your criteria may vary, which is why "worth it" questions are kind of useless.

780g? Are you sure? That sounds lighter than I remember. Even so $10/g is a high ratio.

i think the R5 is not worth the 1600 more, were it not that, at least 2014 it comes in a far more attractive colour than the R3, but your opinion on the colour may differ of course

I don't really know if the 2014 R3 is lighter than the 2012 R3 Team, maybe stiffer and 7W aeroer. But with the internal cable system and Di2/EPS readiness, the 2014 should be a good choice. My actual dilemma is that I have a great 2012 R3 Team DuraAce 7900. Sitting on the desk is a DuraAce 9070 and I don't really know if I spend some $$$ with a 2014 frame (maybe a downgrade in the fork area??) or loose my warranty and get some holes drilled with reinforcement in a professional shop (way cheaper than the new fame)

What do you guys think?
