The answer is at least 8 years in one case. My compact 175mm set, purchased at the end of July in 2005, has just developed a crack near the pinch bolts on the left crank. Averaged over the lifespan, a cost of $111 per year. Not bad for the WW crank category killer, but your results will almost certainly vary.

My older non-drive side arm that used 2 pinch bolts also cracked. Damn thing wouldn't stop squeaking for the next 2 years.

I've had a set since 2006. They required a repair shortly after I bought them... rebonding the insert for the fixing bolt, but have been trouble free since.

 2 years!? Sounds like mine. If it wasn't getting worse I'd probably push my luck too, though it's probably not the smartest thing to do.

Wouldn't it make more sense to talk about ball park mileage rather than years?

The 4 years i had them I had all sorts of problems. I brought them used off eBay...very bad idea.
Seems some bastard sold them to me after he crashed them.

-Aluminium bung that the pedals screw into fell out.
-Aluminium bung in the non-drive side arm for the per-load screw fell out.
-non-drive side arm carbon cracked around pinch bolt.
-spindle was compressed or worn where the BB bearing sits on. So the crank always has a little lateral play.
