Schoolboy question: I am looking at upgrading my groupset to DA 9070 Di2. I want to start buying different components over the next few months but i want to start with the cables next week. Are the correct cables to buy the EW-SD50? I have been doing research about it but like most things, the more you read the more confused one gets. So when i get confused i turned to the best cycling resource in the world. Any help would be great. Cheers.

When in doubt, it's always best to refer to the official documentation :) -

What do you currently have ?

Shimano sell a electric shifting kit which includes leavers, front and rear derailuer and battery...

If you are going from 10 speed might be worth just buying as a complete group it will be cheaper.

Yes. You need 6 wires in total
* 2 wires from shifters to front junction box
* 1 wire from front junction box to "central" junction box SM-JC40/SM-JC41
* 1 wire from junction box to battery
* 1 wire from junction box to FD
* 1 wire from junction box to RD

Cables are not included in groupsets or upgrade-kits.

Thanks. I was looking online at the Shinamo Line up chart http://productinfo.shimano.com/lineupch ... speed=2x11 and it has EW-SD50-I as the cables i need but i see stores have EW-SD50...i am guessing these are the same thing?

Their the same. All the new gruopsets use the so called E-Type wiring. You can mix 9070, 6780 and 6770 components for example.

Only difference is the "I" type are internal and come with zip ties on them to keep them from rattling in your frame.

Do they? Some retailers may do packages, but Shimano just sell the items singly as there are too many permutations to suit different frames/needs.

There are some group packages out there but all of them to my knowledge use the external battery. I'm all for saving money however in the end I decided to order my parts a la carte. Plus I don't think one could save a huge amount buying as a group as far as Di2 goes. I also believe that Shimano gave OEM manufacturers much better pricing on Di2 than what's available to those wanting to upgrade. In other words it might be cheaper to buy a brand new bike with Di2 8)

Great list, thanks. I have everything you put down except I see you put "Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 Front 5 Port Junction SM-EW90B". Do you know if the Shimano SM-EW67A-E will work as well?

SM-EW67A-E will work, but
* only with external battery! SM-EW90B has a port to plugin the battery charger for internal battery.
* you need only 4 wires then when using SM-EW67A-E

You don't really need a five port junction A unless you have a very specific time-trial setup. However I did hear something about the five-port being wireless capable with the vaporware Flightdeck. When I checked the price between the five-port and three-port the difference was less than $10. I ordered the five-port just to be safe. Rumor has it the new flightdeck is ANT+ capable and it might be a good alternative to the Garmin (i.e. no need for a cadence sensor). GL.
