Shimano Di2 9070 internal battery charger
Moderator: robbosmans
Hi ,
My next frame can only be install with di2 internal battery .Shimano BTR2
I knew that SM-PCE1 can be use for diagnostics/firmware update . Can it be use to charge the battery as well ?
Or I still need SM-BCR2 to charge the battery.
p/s - i will list my new external di2 battery/charger soon . not needed
Thanks

You need the SM-BCR2 to charge the battery. I had a SM-PCE1 but it wouldn't charge the battery. The SM-BCR2 has a different cable that plugs into the front junction box, not your standard e-tube like the SM-PCE1.

You can update the firmware AND charge the battery with the SM-BCR2. You don't need the SM-PCE1.

Do keep in mind that if you have any issues and need to run any diagnostics on your DI2 E-Tube components, you will need the PCE1.
