Has anyone had much luck lightening Dura Ace 9000 brakes? I love the feel and performance of them but am having a hard time justifying the 140+ gram weight over other commonly available solutions. They are even heaver than the 7900 predecessors. Just curious if anyone has tried to replace hardware/pad holders/etc and if so what kind of savings this yielded. Thanks!

I don't recall ever seeing any tuned DA 9000 brakes. I suspect most people just opt for a lighter brake. EECycleworks is my fave.

I don't think many people would buy dura ace with the intention of tuning them. There are lots of much much lighter starting points, many of which are cheaper.

Dura ace (and Record) are there for stopping power and control in all conditions, not weight weenie tuning.

I'm sure the pad holders/bolts would shed a few grams without sacrificing performance. THM pad holders are one of the lightest I think (although pricey). You can get them in black or silver, both would go with DA. 36g for the 4.

You don't start tuning heavy expensive stuff.

At least start with heavy cheap parts :)

You can shave up to 20 grams by changing with KCNC brake pad holders, and installation bolts of the calipers

Pads are not something that you should consider and weight. I had the same issue and upgraded from the very light 200gr Fouriers forged calipers to DA 9010.

Heavier calipers has less flex, modulation, better stoping power, ease of fine tune, and installation which more user friendly

I had the same issue with my DA-7700 brakes.
I ended up with Planet-X Ultra Light Forged brake calipers with KCNC Cartridges / Swisstop pads - 115g for the front brake fitted

Probably true, but my new Fuji sl 1.5 that was given to me as a birthday present came with DA and I think I'd rather not start replacing major parts on a brand new bike :)

Dura Ace is the best caliper brake out there period. When it comes to stopping its unbeatable. Why mess with something so vital to save a few grams?

At some point you just have to draw a line when it comes to marginal weight savings. Shimano engineers spend countless hours to perfect a product. There's a dedicated team for Dura Ace groupset.
