I have the shield version for the track because it is the perfect omnium helmet. A bit more aero than road helmet, and (way) more ventilation than a Casco. Perfect compromise, right tool for the job. It seems like the perfect crit helmet as well. And while I agree that it would not be my choice for long climbing in hot weather, I was pleasantly surprised when I wore it during a track event in San Jose last month during a heat wave (high 90's), with no noticeable issues.

Agree that the shield version is the way to go. While I have yet to see some solid data, I suspect the shield will end up providing nearly as much of the aero benefit (if not more) as the lack of vents. Besides, it looks kind of like a mushroom cap without the shield and pretty badass with one.

I think my packing tape is lighter than a shield. I wonder when Specialized will reveal weight numbers for the Evade.

That's apples and oranges. The aero benefit I was referring to with the shield itself has nothing to do with the vents, rather the cleaner air around the rim of helmet and face -- which, with standard road helmet (or even non-shield Air Attack) and sunglasses, I suspect is particularly turbulent. Again, I have yet to see the data, but I am inclined to bet this is at least as beneficial as the lack of vents.

My large is 310g.

dj, given it's not being marketed as a 'light weight' helmet I'd say weights will come later.

Are the evade out? If not how did you get one?

TP was at the 2014 Specialized laucnh so got his hands on one there.

Talking to my mate here who works in a Specialized store reckons Evade more than likely will arrive in Australia in September..

I was told November.

Arts Cycling (USA) are saying they are expecting stock July 30th on their website - so September - November for Au and NZ is a long wait.

Oh and one shop I have spoken to has put the RRP in NZ around the same price as the S Works Prevail - $400! Eeek! And they wonder why people buy shit online from overseas instead
