I'm considering one of these stems but it's for a TT bike and the stem would be clamping a set of aerobars with extensions. How secure is the handlebar clamp on this Kalloy stem? It needs to be very secure and I am unconvinced by the Kalloy's two part faceplate design.

I used carbon friction paste on the bars and clamping is very secure already at low torque.

Have a 110 on the way. Too bad there aren't any -17 but oh well.
I bought the stem from ebay for $35 and came today from post (1 week exactly)
120mm I have, and weight is 114 grams. Came with all titanium bolts, which I am really happy.
For 35 dollars total, my stem is lighter than my old Zipp Service Course SL...
Now I need to remove the paint on the stem, since it does not fit to my new bike built.
Anyone here did that and can recommend me an easy way for it?
Edit: acetone seems the correct answer.

I'm about to pull the trigger on two of these stems (one for my new build, one for my GF's build) and I'm hoping to get two of Tillquist's Garmin mounts to fit this stem.
Can anyone tell me what the center-to-center bolt widths of the faceplate is?

I will measure it when I am home, if no one does it meanwhile.

edit:
Outside to Outside of bolts distance is 31mm.
One bolt outside to outside is 7mm.
3.5mm from left and 3.5mm from right so 31-7=24mm is center to center measurement.
Copied from my build thread for completeness:
I had the 100mm Uno (in the thread above). For my new bike, I needed to swap the 100mm stem for a 110mm one so replaced it with a 110mm Kalloy Uno that I weighed at 114g.
Graphics stripped with acetone and with the bolts removed it was 94g.
Swapping the bolts to Ti bought the total weight to 106g.
I can measure for you. Does Tilquist make a mount for these?

As ToffieBoi posted-

And yes- Tillquist's does make a Garmin mount to fit and it works great.

Just so everyone knows, BlueSkyCycling in L.A. has the Kalloy UNO ASA-105 on sale at $9.99 for the alloy and $19.99 for the Carbon wrapped. Only in 110mm. Shipping was $5.00 and you just need to swap out the bolts for Ti ones. My 110mm alloy one came out to 122g with the Ti hardware, about 20g lighter than the Ritchey WCS 4-Axis 110mm that I previously had.
