My son is running 42/30 Extralite chainrings whith Shimano Udi2 (10-speed) and they work perfectly. He is limited to 5.78m rollout over here so that results in a max gear of 42/15. unfortunately, when using anything larger than a 13t outer cog, the chain makes contact with the seat stay. Very frustrating....!!!!

Could you use the existing cassette, removing the 12t cog and replacing it with a (custom) spacer? you would have 10 cogs on 11 speed spacing but technically wouldn't be blocking off gears.

Is there any info on when/if Shimano will release junior gearing?
It's best to just use a specific junior cassette instead of messing around with cassettes and front rings. Because they still need to be able to switch wheels in a race from the neutral car.

There's an easy solution - put a 10 speed cassette with Ultegra 6800 and adjust the mech travel.
