I'm reading the rotor install guide that indicates there should be no more than 1.5mm of clearance from the teeth to the FD cage.

Does anyone know if they mean this for the tallest point of the chainring or the lowest point?

thanks in advance!

Derailleur must be positioned the way that will allow a free movement of the cage over the bigger ring.
If you set it up to the smaller diameter you will not be able to move it on or off the big ring.

The highest point of the ring, should be where you take the measurement.

Be patient, pay attention to what you're doing, and these shouldn't be too much of a headache to install.

I find that 1mm at the highest point is about the sweetspot, but be prepared to fine tune the height a number of times.

thanks guys.. this was all very helpful. finally on the road at last.

Going from the small to big ring is still a little wonky and takes several tries. I think I have the gap at a tiny bit less than 1mm, going to try moving it a bit and see if I can get this working properly.

another tip that may work for you is to adjust the tail of the front d cage inwards (towards the wheel) 1-2 mm more then you would normally. I find this position helps with upshifts.

Bear in mind, these rings do not follow to the category of the best gear changing rings
Having said that, after a number of tiny adjustments finally I can be happy with these fellas.

PS.
I am sure that the flimsy Red with Ti cage plays its role there as well.

I have no problem with mine, once they are set up right.
