Wilier SL crown race fitting.

Looking for confirmation whether the crown race is needed or not for headset installation.
The headset is a Ritchey WCS Carbon Drop In Integrated Headset.
The bearing seems to fit quite well without one, but I am not sure if it is meant to be installed without a crown race.

Does the race fit properly in the head tube?

Yes, all the way down to the last ~.5" where the tube start to flare. This bit just seems too tight to force.

I think your best bet will be to contact Willier directly on this one, unless someone here happens to have gone through the same thing.

Yeah, thanks. I am heading for a LBS in the morning, just wanted to check here first.

...and for anyone that was wondering, all solved by my LBS. Even made a nice dent in the workshop floor.
