Sram Red RD spring broken. Replacement available?

Strangest thing: at the end of my ride today My RD would not come down the cassette after the last climb. Checked it a home and the spring is gone!! I think there is a little piece still in there - I guess it broke. I've never seen or even heard of this before.
Is it possible to obtain and install just the spring?

A few LBS folks have advised me that a broken spring means a new derailleur. Totally non-serviceable as far as I can see.
For the want of a horse a kingdom was lost.
