Tufo Elite Jet 160 - any experiences?

Hi there,
I have some Tufo EliteJets 20mm and Elite Pulse 22mm tubs here. I'm considering putting the EliteJets on LW Meilensteins.
I'm curious how such a light tire behaves. I'm quite sure they are very resistant to flats but I'm afraid they are too narrow for good handling.
Any thoughts / experiences with any of these?

My guess is that the nearly day long silence from the WW forum is because with a good search effort by the OP the facts will quickly be known - versus asking regulars to make an effort to rehash what is very common knowledge?

Not trying to be harsh - just a realistic view of the value of a good search :beerchug:

Bottom line - tufos on such nice wheels is a shame.

Yes I agree. The only tubular which "fits" the LW is Continental by Lightweight.
But, I just want to test things, I dont make decisions by reading forum posts. I just have the chance to get tubulars for testing so what's wrong to put Tufos on LWs for a few weeks? I have used many tubulars on different wheels and I can say that some Tufos are really excellent while other are far away from excellence. Depends on the model. The same with some other more respected brands.
I think that if you want to test the tyre you should put in on top wheels to really feel the details. (And on a wheel which you are used to)
Anyway, that's another topic, I don't want to start a tubular war here:)

Now I am just curious if there is anyone having any kind of experience with Elite Jet and Elite Pulse tubs.
Yesterday I have put both on the wheels (not glue them) and EliteJet really looks too narrow for all-around use. But they are amazingly light (155g on my scale) and very well build so I'm sure that there are people on WW who use them.
Yesterday I also got some info that they are among the best handling tyres (on wet and dry).
I'm not a true WW but 155g comparing to 260 (conti competition) is 210g saving on rotating mass.. Does this still means "shame" on wheels which are intentionally light?

So, simply saying that puting tufos on LWs is a shame is not enough for me but thanks anyway for your opinion;)

Tufo Elite Jet 160 is a very light tire and rides fine on very smooth clean roads. I have ridden then on LW wheels and was surprised at how long I was able to ride on roads with glass and litter without getting a flat. Overall you get a tires that does not last as long as a Conti, you can use any of the Conti tires on your LW wheels without any problems but they will weigh more.

Sedluk what about the width? Aren't they too narrow? How's the handling comparing to Conti Competition (or any other)?

Thanks!

They are very narrow, I have not measured them but Tufo says 20mm.

On very smooth clean roads they are fine. I have ridden on them in the rain on bad roads, but I would not reccomend them for anything but a nice sunny day on good roads.

several years ago I rode Tufo Elite Pulse for one season. Theese were best Tufo tires I've ever tried. 220-225g, quite comfortable for Tufo tires, flat resistant. I would recomend You to try them.

Hi,

Bottom line - tufos on such nice wheels is a shame.

Exactly. Won't ever understand why some people want to ride tubular wheels just to use this kind of junk....?

Ciao, ;)

Ok, I volunteer to be a test dummy for Tufo Elite Pulse. I will let you guys know how shitty the are:) Just give me a couple of weeks...
For the record - so far I tried
Schwalbe Ultremo HT
Conti Competition
Conti Sprinter
Conti Force Attack
Tufo S3Lite
Tufo S33pro
Tufo S33Special
Tufo HiCompositeCarbon
Vittoria Corsa

Favourites so far: Schwalbe ultremo, Force Attack, S3Lite.

Btw, speaking of tubulars.. does anyone know who makes the Bontrager tubulars? Vittoria?

The Bontragers appear to be made by Veloflex. I have been using them and feel as nice as any other Veloflex, Vittoria out there... nice
