Got myself a pair of 27mm Pavè clinchers, now wondering which (butyl) tubes would go with them. I'm a Conti guy, but their road tubes only go to 25mm per spec, their tour line starts at 28mm. Got spare supersonic tubes also, too risky?

They will be used in bad weather a lot, so I'll probably better be safe than sorry. Not looking forward to fixing flats in the pouring rain.

Vittoria makes a tube in both latex and butyl called the Ultralite that runs from 25mm to 28mm.
The weight was also completitive as I recall.

Ditto.

Michelin latex may not be the lightest, or most supple, but they seem more robust. I'm running them with 24mm Pavé

Put the 28 Conti in. Slightly higher puncture resistance that way. I run 25 tubes in 23 tyres.

+1 on the Michelin latex. Only flat I ever had in my Open Pave CG 24s was due to user error in mounting. Amazing ride -- I believe the latex actually is more puncture resistant.

Mounted them today, with the 28mm Conti tubes. They measure a hair under 27mm on Open Pro rims when inflated (Exactly the same width as the 28mm spec'd Conti GP 4 Seasons). Looking forward to ride them.

I tried Vittoria latex 18/23mm and Michelin aircomp latex 22/23mm on my Challenge Parigi-Roubaix 27 mm.

The Michelin is holding up fine. The Vittoria lasted one ride, ripped around the valve mount.

Louis :)

You use carbon rims?

You use latex tubes?

You be careful on large descents!
The latex can adhere to the rim insides with the heat build up and actually pop.

This is sort of unrelated, but can you measure their actual width when mounted and pumped up? I'm wondering if they will clear my scott cr1 (pre addict) frame.

I wouldn't worry too much about matching the tubes up exactly. You can go a size smaller without consequences I think.

Correct. In a pinch I ran 19/23 tubes in a 35mm CX tire with no issues. Running 25's in a 28 seems like it would be the WW norm!
