Anybody have experience with using an aftermarket chainring with shimano as I would like to know what brand, if any, 36 tooth chain ring is compatible with shimano 7900 crank? Thinking about upgrading to 9000 36/52 crankset but would like to demo the 36 on my bike first.

I have had the Praxis 52/36 rings mounted on 7950 crankarms...these are 110 BCD and don't work on 7900 arms (130 bcd)

a 38T is technically the smallest you can engineer on a 130BCD. Any smaller the CR bolt is directly in the tooth bed.

I own shimano's 36t. (110) from their CX cranks (fc-cx70).

Works a treat, but might be heavier than DA (but quite impossible to find though).
