Well, let's just put a fiver down on how many years it takes for mass market hydraulic derailleurs to hit the streets. When two of the big three make them, I'll concede the point. We'll also have to see how the Red hydro brake levers stack up against the mechanical levers on the scales. I have an awfully hard time believing they're going to weigh less. And the rim calipers themselves look awfully bulky, though I do realize those are there mostly to fill out the kit, rather than serve much real purpose.
One thing that hydro systems do offer, though, is much better internal routing, and that's nearly enough to make it worthwhile in my book.

electronically actuated hydraulic shifting..... booya
The disc setup looks great, and the levers don't look as bad (imho) as bad in the pics on p7 as I thought they would.
Can only make a proper judgement in the flesh though.
Will be interesting to see what the overall weight of the groupset is though.
Tha calipers look nice and small and I like the fluid inlet routing. Wonder what the pad size is ?

This leaves me hopeful that it will be possible to convert 2013 Red to 11-speed. Of course, it is difficult to discern any minor differences, such as chainring width, from these photos.
You'll have to replace the rear shifter to get the tenth click, which means you'll have to replace the rear brake to work with the hydraulic lever, and (probably) the rear derailleur. Now your shifters are rather blatantly different so you'll want to use the new front shifter which will require a new hydraulic brake, but you can keep your FD. Your crankset is good too.
I'm confused... he said 11 speed, not the disk brakes. For 11 speed you just need the extra click. So rear shift lever + cassette should be enough, assuming the freehub is 11-compatible, right? And on the shifter, it's been proven here you need to change only one part in the shifter.

Yeah, and I revised my statement later once I realized that there is going to be a mechanical lever with the old graphics for 11s.
Sure, you only need to replace one piece--or no pieces if you have a file--but that's not a viable option for most people. And I reckon that most that can do the mod on their own would prefer to get the proper one from Sram anyway.

I wonder if they'll offer the part for in-shop swap. I believe Campy did that in the past. They should.
Sram are smart enough not to go hydraulic in the shifting. They will go electronic for sure, some day. They already hired some electronics/robotic engineers for this. Hydraulic braking is not that bad, I don't like it but hey, some may like it. Hydraulic shifting won't happen in sram. Those images they showed, if real, are electronic shifting. for hydraulic they need a double house, just like Acros.
they want to fool people, to catch them all by surprise. that is also why it was announced on April fool's day.

this is the image going around on the internet. this is:
a) a joke for April fool's day.
b) proto of new sram electronic groupset.
Again, Sram will never ever go hydro in shifting. And looking closer to the image, you can see that it's a clear photoshop, so 99% it's option A.
Happy Trails !!!

You know there's also the pre-photoshopped image of the entire groupset that clearly shows mechanical shifting.
Sram using anything other than Shimano 11sp spacing and freehub spec would be insane from a business perspective.
The spacing for Shimano 11sp is narrower than 10sp spacing. So you'd need a new shifter cam with 11 "teeth" spaced appropriately, rather than filing a single new one like those guys did (as cool as their mods are). If the rest of the mechanism works with the slightly narrower spacing then that'd be all you'd need. But I expect Sram to take the opportunity to make profit on people who have to have the latest stuff, and sell only shifters, or even a kit with shifters and derailleurs that you probably don't actually need as well. Why sell a $10 part when you can sell a $1500 kit?

Did any industry spies get photos of the goods this weekend at the red 22 launch events? I suppose it can wait til tomorrow.
That ratchet part would be sick. I would buy that, the rear FD and the 11sp cassette right away if it were available. But not about to buy new shifters for it. I have the latest red group and the old one as well. Also have some 2013 404s with the 11 sp hub. Looking forward to 11sp, but I don't need whole new shifters, fzck! Definitely not interested in hydraulic anything though, ew. To me, part of the Sram appeal was keeping it simple.
