Hi,

First time poster, long time reader. I just purchased a 2011 BMC Team Machine frameset and was wondering the bottom bracket (BB) type I need to select when purchasing a new Campagnolo groupset. Please note the frame does come with the BMC issue bottom bracket although I now need to get my groupset on. The options for the BB are:
English
Italian
BB30 (42mm)
BB30 (46mm)
86.5x41 OR
BB Right...

Obviously really keen to get the right one so appreciate everyone's help. Also do I need to purchase the Campy adaptors?

Thanks very much

For Campy, you want Italian.

Sorry, this is nonsense, at least as it applies to bottom brackets. Campag do cups and adaptors to suit most BB standards. In any case what he wants is driven by the frame, not by the component manufacturer.

A bit of googling suggests that the 2011 Teammachine is BB30, if it's this bike:
http://road.cc/content/review/47665-bmc ... hine-slr01" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If so then you'll need to acquire Campag's BB30 press-fit cups, strip out the installed BB, press in the Campag cups, then install your Campag chainset.

Woah, my mistake. Somehow I read that backwards as he has the Campy groupset and needs to know what BB to get his frame it. Standard campy BB is Italian, so that's why I said that. My bad!

What makes you think that, is it just because they're an Italian company? As I said, you buy the Campag cups that suit your frame.

Maybe not "standard", I guess I meant typical. I didn't realize that Campy makes cups for BB30, for some reason I thought they used BSA/ITA to BB30 adapters. I posted when I shouldn't have, mistakes were made, corrections were found. Nothing to see here.

Hey

Thanks Miller, that is the bike in your link. I am obviously just a bit confused by it all... The frame I have purchased currently has a BB for a Sram BB30 compatibility. I am going to put a new Campy 11 speed group set on the bike. It seems that I need the adapters to suit. With this in mind what option should I select for the bottom bracket when ordering the groupset i.e.

English
Italian
BB30 (42mm)
BB30 (46mm)
86.5x41 OR
BB Right...

Really sorry as mentioned just wanted to ensure I get the right one! Also in regards to the adapter I hear the Campy one isn't that good, any recommendations (links)?

Thanks

As Miller said, if it's a BB30 shell then you need the 42mm BB30 Campy cups. (the 46mm cups are for PF30).

The Campy BB30 cups work fine. Mine are in their third season on my Supersix.

The cups are dry pressed into the frame, carefully. The rest of the crankset install is as per Campy normal. Suggest you read and follow their instructions.

Not sure exactly what
Please note the frame does come with the BMC issue bottom bracket
means, but if there's anything installed the BB shell, it needs to come out.

You need bb86.5x41 per my previous 2012 RM01

Thanks very much everyone,

Getting there... So is it the BB30 (42mm) OR 86.5x41? Also I presume the adapter cups are simply the 41mm ones?

Really appreciate everyone's help.

2011 SLR01 requires a BB30 (42mm), I have a Sram Red BB30 in my 2011 SLR.

From 2012 BMC SLR & RM01 etc) went to 86.5x41 which is the Shimano BB due to the Team being sponsored by Shimano

That's not right. Don't fool him. As a owner of a 2011 BMC Team Machine I can say it's BB30.

Sorry... This is definitely getting confusing! I appreciate your reply 'handler', considering you have the same frameset I presume you're right.

Really want to ensure I get the right one as ordering from overseas and can't simply return it. Is it BB30 42 or 46 for 2011 BMC Team Machine?

Thanks again

OP the answer we have given you already is that if it's a BB30 BB shell, then use 42mm cups.

The 46mm cups are for PF30 frames.

I looked at Millers link and it adds to the confusion by showing a frame with external bearings - not BB30.

If you have the frame in your possession, simply measure it. If not, ask the seller to confirm the BB type.

Not trying to fool anyone, I work at a bike shop which deals BMC and, as I mentioned previously, my belated 2012 RM01 was BB86.5x41 on Campy.

OP, contact BMC directly at info@bmc-switzerland.com to get you a straight answer from the right source and forget all the confusion in here.
