I have a few Ti frames. I'd like so get some small details anodized but doing a simple search doesn't reveal much.

Leni Freid seems to be the only bicycle specific anodizer out their, but I'm looking for something a bit simpler than her usual jobs and her minimum is a bit more than I was looking for. Certainly not over priced for her level of work though.

Anyone know of another option. I've looked into doing it myself also.

Firefly offer ano on their Ti frames, maybe have a word with them and see if they can help?

Good suggestion, but I figure that they either do it themselves or given the geography they have Leni Freid do it for them.

Serrotta also have some anodizing.

I know you specify American-based, but I highly recommend Toronto Cycles. They charge next to nothing to color titanium and are very friendly to work with.

i think his brother runs jerseycycles.com in NJ. maybe he offers similar...or could be that he just gets all his anodizing from up north. doesn't hurt to ask.

Thanks, although lI mentioned Leni in my OP. I'll check with Jerseycycles, although i think they do aluminum anodizing, not Ti.

Don't do it. I've heard so many bad stories about this.

What have you heard go wrong. Only a fraction of frames made are Ti and only a tiny fraction of those are anodized, it hard to believe that you've heard lots of bad stories.

Don't believe me then. Hit up Googs.

Its not so much that I don't believe you, but your response was pretty vague and I've looked for info on home anodizing and professional anodizers. Haven't found much as far as issues anywhere.

At one time merlin warned againsy anodizing because of micro cracking, but then they later started to do extensive engraving so its hard to take that warning seriously. Of all thecracked Ti frames I've seen on the internet none were broken at an anodized area.

Believe me if you can point to something specific I'd love to see it.

I think you hit the mail on the head. Microcracking is a big issue with anodizing titanium.

I undestand the concern, but a fair muber of bikes have been built with some anodizing and lots of bolts and fasteners, yet the only place I can find that voices a concern about doing it is from merlin way back and 7. 7 actually has issues in a paer with any type of finish other than the one they offer :roll:

It seems like the process has been used enough that if the problem was real their would be plenty of examples.

Of course if anyone has a Firefly that is anodized with 55cm toptube and is afraid to ride it, I'll be glad to test it for you for a few years.

Sounds like you want to add a logo or some text?

Why don't you buy some 9V batteries, (or a voltage variable power supply) some cola and give it a go?

This is the color/voltage range;

and this is a simple example of what the result can look like;

It's very simple and straight forward.

WOW :shock: . This stuff is amazing! I might have to get a TI frame, just so this guy can anodize it for me!
