I've had a couple of ZX's in 2012, rode about 1500km with them but didn't notice any problems at all. Only used butyl tubes

Some of the old contis had this problem. The GP4000 for example.

I haven't noticed it on Ultremo ZXs (black, 23, 25, and 28mm all in service) which, going by feel at least, seem pretty good on rolling resistance, grip and ride quality.

I've done some 1K miles on 2012 DDs with no problems (other than some cuts and nicks but I've ridden them on all all sort of crap) and close to 1K on 2013 (Vectran) ZX similarly with no issues. DDs are 25mm and ZXes are 23mm all black. I do like the ride and puncture resistance so far. Will be looking for the mentioned sidewall issues. If they can make 2K miles with no issues they get my vote.

Left and right on my Ultremos. I cut them. They reappear. I cut more.

I haven't lost a tire from it, yet (fingers crossed!). I was worried, but no more.

Hi,

Casualties, yes. Disaster? Depends on how you want to define it.....

In general Schwalbe's customers service have been more than forthcoming to replace the faulty product with what may potentially be another flaky one. Would you feel safe after that?

Doesn't this kind of behaviour ring a bell somwhere?

i've emailed them with photo attach since last week Tuesday and yet to receive any reply from them. Maybe they are investigating before they reply.

Hi,

I always have this problem with both Schwalbe Durano S and Conti Gatorskin on Mavic Aksium. I had concern about it but after riding the tires for while and had no problem, I thought this was normal.

Relax folks, it is just a protective layer of fabric, like base tape on a tubular.
