Has anyone ridden (or better - own) a 2013 Fenix?

I'm looking at one with Ultegra Di2. It seems ok apart from the average wheelset but I haven't been able to test ride it or even find a review.

Got one second handed in mint condition. Frame fork and token PFBB all at 800USD. Cannot really make meaningful comparison as I only rode BMC Team Machine (phonak version) before. I rode the fenix for almost 1000k now. The ride is rather lively. Definitely stiff but not too harsh. Rode a century trip on bad tarmac. Could feel every single rocks but it doesn't make me sore felt like i could still go for another hours. Respond well under acceleration. I weight 64 and dont have enough power to flex it in any condition. I dont race so this bike is more than enough for me for now. The frameset is not light. I forgot the bare weight though. Take corner quite well. As i said I haven't ridden a more expensive bike so take this for whatever it worths.

Paintjob is well done though not as neat as the more expensive models for obvious reason. Finish could be a little better but thats just me cause i prefer matte coating.

Problem i have during the build is that the internal cable make for some annoying noise. Need to insert a rubber ring or two next time i get it serviced. Other than that no problem whatsoever.

Built was budget. Full 105 / Shimano R500 / 3T pro stem bars seatpost. Weight is 8.3kg with bottle cage and sigma comp+ speed and cadence sensor. Could save a lot more weight with carbon wheels, seatpost and cockpit. I spent about 1.7k on this bike.

Overall very please with it. I had a head on collision with other rider at 50kph once (still hurt!) but the frame suffer no damage apart from minor scratch. Hope this helps. One of the more affordable enty carbon bike for sure.

Review on this bike is hard to come by for some reasons.

The LBS bought a few of them here. In the hands, it felt like a very light frame (I didn't weigh it). The new Aksiums are not that bad, really.

I noticed there was a lot of wire under the BB area though. Looked awkward.
Maybe because they're the first Di2 bikes the techs are assembling there.
Must be some cleaner ways to assemble a Di2 setup...I doubt the frame design is at fault...

Louis :)

Bringing back an old thread!

It's now 2016 and the straight-tube Fenix is still around in regular and disc form (frameset gets a redesign for 2017 with curved top tube).

Would appreciate more feedback on the Fenix. What has your experience been, and would you recommend this frame to others? From what I've read, this is not a very popular frameset because it runs heavy, but has great ride qualities and since it is future-proofed, is an underappreciated value.

An old thread indeed. Luckily, I also get to ride the new Ridley Fenix SL (the curved top tube) and review in Thai language here. http://www.duckingtiger.com/2015-ridley ... sl-review/

I would say they are quite similar. The SL is obviously lighter, and more responsive. The bike is extremely comfortalbe and track corners well with its longer than average wheelbase. It's a plush ride. Very comfy, but you could sense the lack of instant acceleration like topend racing bike. Still very good though. It's stiff, just not as instantaneous if you are coming from climby bikes. The position is racing-relaxed. Headtube is not particularly high, like most endurance bikes so you could still get long and low.

The bike is undervalue to be honest. A very good bike with protour racing pedigree and r&d (it's the bike the Lotto team still rides in Paris-Roubaix). I believe it's the cheapest pro-tour ridden frame you could buy in the market. The new SL is better than the old one in everyway. If you like the design, go for the SL. You won't be disappointed. Good for audax, but don't expect V8 acceleration like the R5, Tarmac, or Canyon ultimate.

Thanks Ichobi, really appreciate the info! I've been hunting around for an deal on a Fenix disc but all the local retailers are pricing this thing pretty high relative to its age, tech (post-mount discs) and component specs. Just under $3k for it is a little much, maybe I need to give it until the new year for some clearance sales.
