*UPDATED*

hey guys,

I'm in the market for some new carbon clinchers.

I do majority climbing but am after the best all-round/purpose wheel available.

I'm fairly light on the bike and don't want anything too deep dish as to avoid getting blown around.

Based loosely on my budget, here's what I've come up with so far:

Zipp 303 Firecrest - 2012 - around $1600-$1700 + SHIPPING SECOND HAND
Ritchey SuperLogic Carbon - 2013 - NEW - $1499 usd + SHIPPING
Reynolds FORTY SIX - 2012 - NEW - $1496 usd + SHIPPING
Bontrager Aeolus 5 D3 Clincher - ? - around $1800 + SHIPPING SECOND HAND
HED Jet 4 FR - 2013 - NEW - $1450 + SHIPPING
CORIMA AERO+ - 2011 - around $1500 + SHIPPING SECOND HAND

Reynolds Assault - 2012 - $900 usd SHIPPED

These prices represent the best I can find at the moment that will ship to me here in Australia.
I've included the Reynolds Assaults because they are HALF the price of the others and get decent reviews.

Based on the above years/prices + build quality, reviews etc, which represents the best value for money?

Please vote in the poll.

Cheers!

The Enve option is hard to beat. They have consistent braking and efficient heat dissipation. The 5 year warranty is hard to argue with too.

Xentis Squad 4.2 can be had - new - for around 1520,17 Euro (no VAT, from Starbike, who sponsor/host this forum). That's just over $2000, which is above your budget, but they are new, handmade wheels, not used.

They tested better than ZIPP for braking in the dry, and 2nd to ZIPP for braking in the wet.

But of course if you can find something used in your price range, the Enve and ZIPPs are apparently really great.

Ritchey Superlogic easily outperformed both Zipp and Enve in the recent Tour test.

They use the Reynolds DV46 rim. They are very inexpensive compared with the boutique brands. You could probably afford a pair of these AND some Fulcrums for the same money.

The list price on the Ritchey web site is $2500 for the pair.

For that price I would much rather have something more aero like the new Boyd carbon wheels. The 44mm depth would be a great wheel for a lighter rider.

Thanks for the helpful replies.

I had noticed the Superlogics on a few of the bikes I'd seen in the magazines recently but never really gave them much further thought.

I will probably need another set of wheels for winter riding so it's definitely something to consider! 2 x pairs for the price of one, or go all out on the absolute best available. I'm really leaning the 303 Firecrest but still researching.

Cheers!
