I feel they just optimised it for road, instead of being downhill, high impact tough (which is what they were, as the old layout was shared with saint, dx Bmx, etc.)

If this new modified BB is so much better and so likely to revolutionize your riding with lighter weight and less drag ... why didn't Shimano Mega Corp with all its bike experts think of it first time around? The new BB is just different. They have made a part that is less durable on account of smaller bearings. That is 'swings and roundabouts' as we say in the UK.

You're sure good at whining.
Why didn't Benz make a better car over 100 years ago?! Ever heard about evolution?

Couple of questions:

1. Is the BB9000 compatible with an Ultegra 6800 crankset?

2. The BB9000 specify the need for either the TL-FC34 tool (the specific tool for the new BB) or you can use the TL-FC24 adapter that comes with the BB... but the BB6800 specifies that it needs the TL-FC37 tool or the TL-FC25 adapter that comes with the BB... so does that mean that the new DA9000 BB is different to the new 6800 BB, which is different to the older BB's?

3. Is the DA BB worth the upgrade over the 6800 BB? What are the differences, if any?
