Can anyone help with the following query?
I can get Shimano stainless steel gear inner for £1.75 each or Shimano stainless steel PTFE coated gear inner for a wacking £7.50 each. Will I notice any difference in performance & would it be worth the price difference? I will be using Shimano SP41 outer.
Many thanks

The PTFE ones are supposed to be smoother. At least one bike company tested this and found their regular stainless one to be smoother, both tested in new sections of sp41 housing around a bend. Possible that the stainless performance would degrade faster, though.
In the end, it's that close between the two, so I'd go with plain stainless.

The ptfe ones are slightly better, you only really notice this if the cable routing is bad. I tend to use them as a last resort if I can't get the normal cable to work as well as I like

Thanks for the sensible replies. Can always rely on WW. I think I'll try the PTFE one for the rear & use the standard one for the front & see how it goes.
