Hello

So, i was thinking... And then came up with the brilliant idea to ask you guys!

Which wheelset do you think, is the best wheelset that money can buy? No concern of money - the only concern to keep in mind is that it has to be UCI-legal.

My personal preference would be the Mavic Cosmic Carbone Ultimate.. But there's many wheels which i haven't ridden.

What is the purpose of this wheelset?
All around?
TT?
Track?
Climbing-heavy race in the canyons and mountain passes?
Posing at the coffee shop?

Many good wheelsets that are UCI-legal and expensive. Many are specific, too.

Like..., if you had to have only one wheelset to race on. The best all-rounder. But everything else is welcome as well, just hoped to get a discussion going.

My pick would be the new Bontrager D3's in tubular.. best bang for the buck and the hubs are the best I have been on.      :beerchug: call me crazy.

I love my Campag Boras :-) Lightweights for sheer pimp value though, surely?

Paul.

"Insider":
Ambrosio tubulars with nice hubs that match your group set or something along the lines of Alchemy/Chris King/...

I chose bontrager Aeolus 3 d3, for my all rounder based on, weight, new wider design, hub quality, medium depth aero profile, and cost.

My second choice would be enve 3.4 laced to tune hubs

Third: zipp FC 303(think the 202 is dated)

Lightweight are pretty but not only are they enpensive but disposable, $6000 for a wheelset that can't even be slightly repairs sucks.

Actually, Lightweight might be the most repairable wheelset on the market. The spokes are an other matter. though.

My choice would be ENVE SES 3.4/6.7 with Chris King R45 hubs.

I'd say the FC 404's or enve 6.7's are a good bet. HED also makes a good rim, but I'm not a fan of their hubs at all. A custom built set of stinger 6 or 7's would be a great wheelset.

Tough to argue this one.

What don't you like about their hubs?

I recently snagged a NOS 2011 Hed Jet 4 wheelset for cheap. Seems real nice to me. Roll well and the wheelset is very stiff. They feel fast while climbing even though they're 1720g!

Remember that for wheels with one or more of > rims over 25mm / fewer than 16 spokes / spokes thicker than 2.4mm < have to be rupture tested to be UCI legal so, strictly, custom builds of Enve/Zipp/HED etc rims are not legal.

Money no object, right? So build two wheelsets, and send one set to the UCI to test!
