I've been looking at my first carbon wheels and first tubulars and I found Easton's for a good deal, but was wondering if the quality is less than that of others like zipp and enve.

For some reason I do not know eBay has some auctions for new Easton's for a lot less than retail. What's the deal?

-ok I edited the title, thy are ec

I broke a spoke on my rear 2011 EC90 but I am not superlight at 80kg. Easton customer service was excellent. No other problems than that. I am using the set as everyday wheels, fair breaking on wer.

While I would say they are second teir from an aero design(They haven't gone to the wide rim Tor design of zipp/hed/enve) they are fantastic wheels and very strong. I would use mine for a season on the road then double duty on cross. It wasn't till I took a rock straight to the sidewall that they met there end. There does seem to be a lot more gray market with easton wheels which would account for how easy it is to find them on the cheap.

I've seen more than one get brake track damage from heat. Stock Swissstop yellow pads. Isolated cases of owners with recurring spoke breakages, and older versions had bearing life issues.
As far as price, they're always on deep discount at nearly all mail order places, so half off on eBay is not out of line. I would not suspect fake. if I was going to fake a wheel, I'd do a fake of something worth a lot more. Nobody fakes Timex watches, as far as I know.

Well, I wouldn't exactly compare a $2100 carbon wheel with a timex. I think if lightweight is Rolex, zipp and enve are brier long and longines, then Easton is tag heuer.

I didn't think they were fake, I just dont know about this grey market, why can they sell them for half off all the time? If you can permanently find an item for 1200$. Doesn't that make it a $1200 item and lot a $2100 item? Maybe zipps go on sale but I can't go any day and find them for that price, so either Easton's are a. Cheaper product or the markup on the other brands is too high and we are being ripped off.

Eastons are a cheaper product. They are always on sale. That is why I don't know any non-online shop that carries them.
