How about doing a test of top level aluminum road racing bicycles? There's a lot of bang for the buck in this category. I'm thinking of the following:
Cannondale CAAD10, Ultegra Racing Edition
Specialized Allez Expert (Ultegra)
Giant TCR SLR 1 (Ultegra)
Jamis Icon Elite (Ultegra)
All of these bicycles are in the mid $2K price range and are closely spec'd.
I'm also interested to see how these stack up against the uber-bicycles that are frequently tested. As I recall from the prior aluminum bicycle test that appeared a few years ago which focused more on entry-level aluminum, the stiffness numbers for the aluminum bikes were close to or better than many of the carbon super bikes...
speaking of Velo Magazine bicycle testing suggestions...

I would like to see this done except between materials. I've always wished someone would have a comparison of a carbon, alloy, ti, and bamboo frame.
