Further to my other post I took apart the barrel adjuster on one of my other bikes (NOT my Scott) and had a bit of a shock!

Thats what happens when a housing cap has a failure or the wrong caps are used on the housing.

Just a suggestion: maybe in the subject line write something such as "Consequences of Housing Cap Failure"
and maybe in the post write something like "I was going to update something I was working on over here [link] and ended up finding this. I thought it would be worthwhile to start an entirely separate thread on the subject, and I'm glad it did not cause me harm while riding."
