I don't often build with these and I don't own any put a pair of new campag pista hubs arrived for a customer track build which I have done. When I rotated the hub axle all feels fine but when I spin the wheel and hold the axle it feels well a bit rough. It spins alright but a 5700 hub is smoother. Opening the hubs up and adjusting the conces does nopt cure the problem.

I don't believe it will get better with time. Again the axle rotate smoothy while holding the hub stil so I could not tell until the wheel was assembled. Too bloiodly late now. Any cure or a bad hub?

This is not what I expect from Campag hub and I don't want to have to strip a new hub down.

A Campagnolo hubset that cannot be adjusted with the cones? Certainly not like any Campagnolo hub I have ever seen before...

It can be adjusted at the cones but doing that did not make it any smoother. It just not as smooth as I expected it to be.

Is this a brand new hub from a shop/distributor? Could the grease be contaminated or something? Seems very unlikely, although aren't Campag track hubs unsealed?

Does the problem only surface when the wheels are installed in the dropouts?

Take it apart and check the cones and inner bearing surfaces to see if there's any damage. If not I'd clean everything and regrease. If it's the same there's something amiss and contact Campag service.
BTW I sometimes think Campag put too much grease in their hubs.

That's probably all it is. Buy any Campa wheel or hubs with cups and cones nowadays and you'll find grease everywhere inside of it.

Ciao, ;)

Try removing all the bearings wiping it all down and using a fine oil or a small amount of grease.
also try removing one bearing in each side and see if there is still a problem.

That's what was going to do, I just don't want to. I really shouldn't have too on high end new hubs. The post many was to warn that campag pista hubs are not always buttery smooth.

I suppose I find out whats wrong when I strip it down. Pain.
