Just did another modification using a BlackOps seatpost: http://kbcyclewerks.com/wp-content/uplo ... tpos11.jpg

Before: Original weight for 27.2/350mm on my scale was 190g.
Stock tube

Stock craddle

Stock Yokes

Stock Pin

Ti Bolts

Major modification: Head was chopped (titanium hardware around and inside)...and I added an extra carbon tube inside the make it thicker before drilling, I used an leftover tip of Zipp Vuka extension bar and fitted just perfect inside! I used epoxy for maximum bonding.

AFTER: 146g
tube after mod: 104g
homemade craddle (carbon): 12g
China yokes: 12g
Homemade pin: 10g
same bolts:8g

Good work, but still heavy for a 27.2 post though.

I agree, tube has a pretty thick wall. As I will be using on a Hardtail MTB I might as well think it's a good weight for the strength offered.

To start off ill put forward my contributions, i being 17 / 18 years old and having little money :( So to get my ride under the magic 5.00kg i took to it with a small range of power tools! Here goes:

Tuned Sram Red Rear Derailleur, 11 hours worth of work on it, final weight = 104.67 Grams. Saving of just over 40 grams. Have ridden over 5000km on it with no major failures (bar jockey wheels, see "AFC Pulley Wheel Review" Thread). Light and functional, and i think its pretty too... Plans to go under 95 Grams yet!

What did you actually do to shave so much weight of the rear mech?

hollow spindle, ti spring, aluminum sleeves, ceramic bearing, aluminium nut, plastic end caps and a bunch of material taken of the body. Take all the grease out before you weigh them :D

Lots and lots of re shaping and work. The mount bolt is significantly shaped (conclaved in the centre) that took a lot of weight out. The front parallel arm took a massive hot to with the dremelling. Lots of little things.
